Tonight London moves to High Covid Alert

Coronavirus cases are rising in Islington, and across London.

From midnight tonight (Friday, 16 October), London will move to a higher Covid-19 alert level.

The new measures mean that we must not socialise with anybody outside of our household, or support bubble, in any indoor setting, at home or in a public place, including pubs and restaurants. We must also not gather in a group larger than six in any outdoor setting.

While we can continue to travel to places that are open, for work or education, we all need to try and reduce the number of journeys we make, and walk or cycle where possible.

This crisis has shown our borough in its best light. Islington people have been incredible at looking after each other during the pandemic, and we know residents will keep doing their bit to keep themselves and our community safe.

We know how hard things are for so many people and Islington Council is here to help, to keep our community safe and support local people when they need us most. That’s why we’re working alongside Islington’s amazing mutual aid groups and volunteers to make sure everyone is supported.

I have been so proud of our borough throughout this crisis but, unfortunately, there is more to do.

Above all we need to continue doing our bit, to keep ourselves and our community safe, and look out for each other through these incredibly difficult and challenging times.

As London moves to high local Covid alert level, act to protect yourself, your friends and your family by:

  • No household mixing indoors – do not meet with people from outside your household (or support bubble) indoors at any time, whether at home or in a public place, including in restaurants, pubs and places of worship.  
  • Sticking with six outdoors – do not meet in groups of more than six people at any time outdoors, and try to limit the number of people you see socially over a short period. 
  • Reducing travel – where possible. 
  • Washing your hands – regularly and for at least 20 seconds.   
  • Wearing a face-covering – in public places, including in shops, on public transport and at the school gates.  
  • Creating space – stay 2 metres apart from people outside your household.
